Student Life Directors Discover Virtual Music Bingo As A Way To Fill Schedules And Unite Students

Challenges Directors and Coordinators of Student Activities Faced

When the lockdowns of 2020 hit (and stuck around way longer than anyone imagined) colleges and universities were scrambling to find ways to keep their students engaged. Their world transitioned to a virtual one and as classes trudged on, isolation dominated. Virtual music bingo with Jindo became one way for student associations to keep smiling and stay connected in a virtual world.

With virtual classes needing more engagement, they needed a new angle in this new space

How can they keep students entertained and connected?

What type of virtual events could handle large crowds?

What can be done virtually that is fun but also engaging?

How can these events be interactive?

online conference connects entertainment companies and talent with colleges and universities

APCA steps in to spark some ideas and fan the flames. APCA is the Association of Promotion of College Activities, and they put together an online conference that connected entertainment companies and talent with colleges and universities looking for new ways to bring students together in a virtual space.

APCA Connected entertainment companies and talent such as:

  • Comedy Shows

  • Game Shows (i.e. Jindo)

  • Musicians

  • Novelty Acts

  • Speakers

  • Variety Show Acts

With college and university decision-makers for student activities:

  • Student Activities Coordinator

  • Student Engagement Coordinator

  • Campus Activities Director

  • Director of Student Programs

  • Student Life Coordinator

  • Student Activities Advisor

APCA was showcasing solutions that would bridge this gap and that is where the music bingo gameshow called Jindo was presented virtually to an online audience of decision-makers.

The energy and performance our professional hosts brought to the show, combined with the ease, simplicity, and accessibility of the Jindo platform, turned heads and got people excited and dancing in their seats.

The Community College Student Leadership Association and Music Bingo from Jindo Connect

The Director of Student Life, Kathy, from Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) in Massachusetts, attended the APCA showcase that day. She loved everything about Jindo, and after meeting with our team, she recommended proposing this to her student association.

Her school is part of an organization called CCSLA which stands for Community College Student Leadership Association. We collaborated with Kathy in creating a package for other schools in the association to join in on our virtual music bingo gameshow. Not only could we connect students and staff at MWCC, but we could connect everyone who was part of CCSLA. That was how Mount Wachusett Community College and a handful of CCSLA schools, took a chance on Jindo music bingo.

Let The Musical Bingo Games Begin!

The Program

We put together a 15-week program that featured a weekly one-hour show featuring music from all different styles and eras. Each one-hour show featured four rounds of music. Students could tune in for free from anywhere for their chance to win an Amazon gift card.

We know that once someone experiences Jindo, they’ll enjoy it, but there lies the real challenge. How do we get students interested in joining us? How can we keep them informed, coming back, and participating?

To help get the word out, Jindo created a library of resources for CCSLA to help attract, convert, and delight the students who came to play Jindo with us. The campaign included:

  • Promotional materials

  • E-blasts in the student newsletter

  • Posts across social media and in student groups

  • Registration Page

  • Automated email with onboarding instructions, links, and a schedule

Student Emails & Newsletters were the #1 referrer for registrations
  • TV Promo Images

Vertical and horizontal files in a 16:9 ratio for on-screen displays.

  • Print Flyers

An 11x17 Tabloid sized poster file along with an 8.5x11 letter-sized flyer.

  • Social Images for Stories

2 vertical screens that can be shared across your social media stories and linked back to the registration page.

  • QR Code FOR REGISTRATION

QR Code that can be used across print and display materials that links over to the registration page.

To track the success of the program and make improvements along the way a survey was also included during each game.

The Show

The students who discovered Jindo and decided to take a chance at winning some Amazon cash ended up having a lot of fun during our musical bingo mashups. The majority of players had a good time and came back to play again.

The Results

A survey was also included during each game to track success and make improvements along the way. The surveys from each game helped us report on how many players we had, from what schools, and if the players had any feedback on improving the games.

Student Emails & Newsletters were the #1 referrer for registrations

Additional analytics tracked by the Jindo host helped us capture additional data beyond registration and surveys.

10 Colleges From CCSLA Played Music Bingo with Jindo Over the Past 4 Years

What We Learned Along The Way

As our experience grew, we’ve made it even easier for more schools to get involved in the program. Simply pay a one-time fee and get access to promotional materials, a registration page, and a full season of games. All school life directors have to do is share the promotional materials with their students. We take care of all the rest. Notifying them of the showtimes and putting on a great show.

The Future of Music Bingo In Colleges Across The Country

The Music Bingo Program Continues into its 7th season

The relationship between Jindo and CCSLA continues to this day with its 7th season (in our 4th year) in a row. The materials, process, and onboarding have been streamlined and the show is evolving.

As things began to open back up, and students returned to campus, MWCC began broadcasting the show to their Student Center so people could gather and share their love for music and games.

We’ve seen students' body language and attitude change the minute they start to play Jindo. We’ve seen groups and communities form around the shared love of music and games that Jindo provides. We’ve seen student life directors ecstatic because they engage their students in a unique and fun way with a great soundtrack.
